Clara (Holzberger) Frena, 98 years old, passed away on October 18, 2018. Clara was born on December 18, 1919, in Ruska Mokra, Czechoslovakia, to Emerich Holzberger and Maria (Horbas) Holzberger in a remote, Austrian lumbering community in the Carpathian Mountains. Clara lost her mother early and decided to come to the U.S. at eighteen (first to Milwaukee, WI then Pittsburgh, PA.

They married in August 1958, built a home in Munhall, PA, and had two children, Lydia and Mike Jr. In 2000, in their early eighties, Clara and Mike moved from Pennsylvania to Idaho to be near family. They were married for 50 years when Mike passed away suddenly in April 2009.

Clara was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, cook, baker, crafter and needlework artist. She always made time for her children and took them by bus (she never drove) to all the cultural and ethnic venues available in a big city. Clara loved to travel, grew gorgeous African violets, and had a special affection for all animals, especially cats.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Sr., and all of her ten siblings. Clara is survived by children, Lydia (George) Noble of Pocatello, ID and Michael (Sharon) Frena of Pleasant View, UT, and two grandchildren, Christina and Steven Frena. Clara’s family extends a special thank you to Caring Hearts Assisted Living and Heritage Home Health and Hospice and all their wonderful, caring staff members.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Community, St. Joseph’s Chapel on North Hayes in Pocatello on Tuesday, October 23rd at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow the Mass and be at the Inkom City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to a charity of your choice.
