He was the youngest and last survivor of the nine children of Elizabeth (Grupp) and Henry John Lichtenberg of Brook Park. After graduating from Berea High School, he married his wife of 48 years Betty (Hoagland), and served in the Navy in the Pacific in WWII.

Clarence worked as a heavy equipment operator in NE Ohio for over 40 years, becoming a lifetime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 18. In 1949, he and Betty built a home with their own labor in Westlake, and he lived there the rest of his life. He was a highly skilled do-it-yourself homeowner and vehicle mechanic, amassing a truly impressive inventory of neatly-stored equipment, tools and hardware parts.

He and Betty worked tirelessly in their large garden and orchard, eventually operating a roadside produce stand at their home during the 1970’s and 80’s. During the last years of his life, after the passing of Betty, and then, his companion Vern Kreicher, his younger son Gary provided extraordinary and loving care to him and his home. He was preceded in death by his siblings Catherine (Hammon), Wilma (Risinger), Florence (Wharton), Leonard, Emma (Reuss), Mildred (Asper), Ruth (Reuss), and Albert.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children and spouses and partners, Dale (Fran), Linda (Michael Allen), Karen and Gary (Jackie Tamburro), and grandsons Rick Rigutto, Kyle (Amanda) Lichtenberg and Andy (Stacy) Lichtenberg, and three great granddaughters.
