Clarence O. (“Bud”) Colvin, age 91, died on May 29, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Austin, Pennsylvania on October 9, 1926 to Clarence O. and Frances Watkins Colvin. He joined the Navy February 1, 1944, after training at Great Lakes, was sent to USNAS Ottumwa.
Discharged in July 1946 he joined Pittsburgh Corning Corporation where he was In-Charge of engineering and drafting on special-shaped industrial Foamglass products. Following graduation from Penn State in January 1952, he became the Senior Analyst in industrial relations for Sylvania Electric’s R.T. Division. He joined Columbia Gas nine state Pittsburgh Group Companies in 1963 as Manager of Compensation, Budgets and Statistics.
He became known nationally in the 60’s for his writings in the fields of job evaluation, compensation and performance appraisal, guiding such programs for Sylvania Electric/GTE (12 years) and Columbia Gas (21 years). He authored articles published by Personnel Journal, was guest speaker before professional engineering, accounting, personnel and management societies. He served as a director of the Pittsburgh Personnel Association (HR) and chaired its Wage and Salary Section.
Active in the American Compensation Association, he was nominated for Executive Vice President in 1968. He was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association and held professional certifications from Case-Western Reserve University, George Washington University, the American Management Association, the National Foremen’s Institute, IBM, Edward N. Hay Associates, Management Sciences Associates, and the American Society for Personnel Administration. He retired from Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation in 1984 as Director of Human Re Services.
His hobby was woodworking. Active at both the local and diocesan levels in three different dioceses, he served on parish councils, religious education committees and as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, June Colvin Holt of Nashville, Tenn.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 46 years, Cheryl, daughters, Laura Kleber (Gregory) of Valencia, PA, Tracy Langham (Kevin) of Keller, TX, Sandra Weamer of Largo, FL, Deborah Poremba (Raymond) of Shavertown, PA, and a son, Richard Colvin (Patricia) of South Park, PA; granddaughters, Mollie Weamer Stiles of Safety Harbor, Florida, Julia Kleber of Valencia, PA, and Whitney Poremba of Shavertown, PA; grandsons, Luke and Cole Langham of Keller, TX, Gregory and Daniel Kleber of Valencia, PA and Matthew Poremba of Shavertown, PA; great grandson, Max Stiles of Safety Harbor, Florida; sisters-in-law, Christine Arnold (Byron) of Roswell, GA, and Victoria Rosenberger (Donald) of Gibsonia, PA; brother-in-law, Mark Ranalli (Eileen) and mother-in-law, Loretta (the late Marco) Ranalli all of Gibsonia, Pa; numerous nieces and nephews. “Bud” will be so missed by his beloved boxer, Kona. No viewing.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 4-8pm at The Clubhouse, Hunt Club 312 Saddlebrook Road, Gibsonia, PA 15044.
