Obituary for Clayton J Tardie Print Clayton “Clay” Tardie (1935-2019) died peacefully at his home, with family at his side, on February 14, 2019 in Enfield, CT at the age of 83. He will be greatly missed as a husband, father, grandfather “pépère,” uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife Pauline; three sons Gary, Jeff and Mark; two daughters-in-law Barb and Kate; two grandchildren Claire and Clara; two brothers Rod, Elden and their spouses Ann and Marie, respectively; one sister Nancy and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clay was born and grew up in Winterville, ME to Alfred and Clarina. After high school, he joined the Army Infantry, serving in Germany during the Korean war (three years). He later moved to Connecticut, where he worked at Whitney Chain and met his bride, Pauline.

They married in 1960. He later joined the Connecticut Army National Guard, where he served for 36 years as a heavy mobile equipment specialist, advancing his career to Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4). He was a Lifetime Member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus.

He served in the Honor Guard, where he paid tribute to countless comrades in arms and their families during funeral services. He was a devout member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Enfield, CT. He enjoyed hunting and fishing on the lakes and brooks where he grew up, spending time with family, and passionately rooting for the UCONN Women’s basketball team and the Red Sox (as long as they were winning with substantial leads).

He was a man of few words, very generous, supportive, kind and positive. He never complained about his long illness. His family was the absolute most important thing to him.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Clayton Tardie will be celebrated Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 9:15 am at Holy Family Church in Enfield, CT. Burial will be at the State Veteran’s Cemetery in Middletown, CT at the convenience of the family in the Spring. Memorial donations in memory of Clayton can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a charity dear to his heart.
