Clifford (Smokey) Frisbie born in Yonkers, NY March 14, 1931 died Thursday, December 13th at the age of 87. He was the son of Elmer Shonts Frisbie and Lorna Stoddard Frisbie. At the age of 16, he signed with the Schenectady Blue Jays, a minor league baseball team.

Realizing a major league career was not to be, Cliff went to work for the Westchester Lighting Co. (Now Con Edison). He retired in 1989 after 39 years. Not eager to settle down, he worked part-time at Hawthorne Self Storage for 25 years.

He served his country during the Korean War in the Navy and was assigned to the construction battalion known as the SeaBees. He married Hedy (Snookie) Gnewuch in 1954 and moved to Thornwood, NY in 1958. He was a longtime volunteer of the Thornwood Fire Dept.

and served as a Commissioner. He was instrumental in getting Leith’s Pond (in Thornwood) renamed and dedicated as The James M. Carroll Park. He was proud of that cooperative accomplishment.

He was also a coach with Sherman Park Little League for several years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and trout fishing throughout his life with his beloved friends. The Schoharie Creek remained one of his favorite fishing spots.

He was the ultimate handyman and could fix anything. He was always available to lend a hand to family and friends. He is survived by his four children, their spouses, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

All who love and cherished him! Per his wishes, a private family ceremony will be held to honor him. In lieu of flowers, donations to The American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (in memory of his wife, Hedy) would be appreciated.
