OBITUARY Colonel Wilbur Oscar Phillips, U.S. Air Force, Retired July 18, 1929 – September 22, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Colonel Wilbur O. Phillips U.S. Air Force, Retired went to be with the Lord September 22, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. Colonel Phillips was born July 18, 1929 in Ft. White, FL and lived in Florida until entering the USAF in 1950.
He attended the University of Florida for three years and graduated from the University of Nebraska. He rose in rank from Private to Colonel in the USAF. He was privileged to work for and around many of the top Air Force leaders during his 31 years of service.
Will held important, diverse assignments at every organizational level from squadron to HQ USAF with overseas service in the Aleutian Island, Bermuda and Vietnam. He earned the Legion of Merit with Cluster, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with Cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with Cluster and numerous other service awards. Will was also fortunate to work eleven years for Valero Energy, another great organization with outstanding leadership.
Following his final retirement in 1992, he traveled the four corners of the U.S. and all points in between with his wife Rosa. Preceded in death by his Mother, Father, 6 Sisters and one Brother, he leaves behind his beloved wife Rosa, son Steve (wife Kim, grandchildren Jeb, great-grandchildren Sophia, Cyrus, Jeb; Ryan, (wife Erica, great-grandchildren Elena and Natalie; and Nicole); son Randy (wife Elaine, grandchildren Paige, husband Adam, and Wesley and Garret); daughter Lori (husband Curtis, grandchildren Carly, Kelly, husband Phil, great-grandchildren Eva and Harrison); daughter Janis (husband Erik); and stepson Bob and granddaughter Hope as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born during the depression, was proud of his accomplishments as the son of poor and loving parents.
He was proudest of Rosa and the success and love of all of his children, extended family and many friends worldwide. A visitation will be held October 3rd, 2018 at Colonial Funeral Home from 5 to 8pm. Funeral services will be held Oct.
4, 2018 at Colonial Funeral Home at 10:00 am, followed by his burial with Full Military Honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Pall Bearers: Wesley Phillips, Garret Phillips, Capt.
Benjamin Torres, Marc Torres, SSgt Jaime Sanchez and David Poole.
