Funeral services for James E. Leighty, age 59 and Connie M. Leighty, age 58, of Ida Grove, will be held on Saturday, June 01, 2019 at the Old Town Vineyard of Ida Grove from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM with a time of sharing at 3:30 PM. Connie Marie Leighty, 58, died Friday, March 22, 2019 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 27, 1960 to Christian and Judy Ann (Lewis) Mathis in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Connie was the youngest daughter of three children and attended Stevens High School in Rapid City. She was united in marriage to Jim Leighty on May 2, 1987 in Rapid City and this May they would have celebrated 32 years. She and Jim were best friends, soul mates, and inseparable.

Connie worked at Unity Point in Sioux City, IA for 11 years as well as at ISS Cleaning Services for 11 years as a crew leader and manager. She was highly dedicated to her work and the people that she managed. Connie was a proud mother and the biggest cheerleader to her daughter, Heather.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling her new and only great-grandchild. Connie had always been close to her mother and that bond grew stronger when Judy moved to Ida Grove 12 years ago to be near the family.

Connie, Jim, and Judy were able to do many things together with the grandchildren during this time and they often referred to themselves as the “Three Musketeers”. This past year, Jim and Judy became Connie’s caretaker while she was fighting cancer. For this act of giving and kindness, Connie was forever grateful to both of them.

Connie was 5’ 2” with a 6’ heart and always put others before herself. Connie is survived by her husband, Jim Leighty of Ida Grove, IA; mother, Judy Mathis of Ida Grove, IA; daughter, Heather (Clint) Conover of Ida Grove, IA; grandchildren, Christian (Melissa), Alexia (Brandon), Grant and Ty; great-grandson, Lincoln; sister, Debbie Peña (Jose) of Piedmont, SD; brother, Joe Mathis of Tennessee; and a host of other family and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Christian Mathis; and maternal grandparents, Russell and Henrietta Lewis.

Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who have extended their love, support, and kindness during this tragic time of losing both Connie and Jim in such a short time. Though they are together again and at peace, we grieve our loss and miss their presence every day. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Connie.
