Connie’s Obituary Connie Newton Ramsey, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and basketball coach, passed from this life on May 2nd, 2019 at 85 years of age. He was born September 2, 1933 to William Fred and Etta Katherine Ramsey in Bixby, Oklahoma. He graduated from Depew High School in 1951 then traveled to Edmond where he received his Bachelor’s degree in 1955.

He would later finish his Masters Degree at Tulsa University. Coaching girl’s high school basketball at his alma mater, Depew, was not something he necessarily set out to do, but when the opportunity came to change from the boy’s game to the girls 6 on 6 game, he was all in. Success came early and often as his 1964 team went 29-0 before dropping a 3 point loss in the first round of the state tournament.

It didn’t take long to get back to the big house and go the distance as his 1969 team won the Class B State Championship. While he reached the pinnacle that one time, a very emotional and memorable return to the state tournament came while coaching at Inola in 1975 with his oldest daughter Terry, a future all-stater, on the team. It ended that year in a heartbreaking close opening round defeat and would be the final trip to the big Arena.

Two years later he would focus on administrative responsibilities becoming the Superintendent at Latta High School. He returned to the coaching sideline on a couple of occasions, returning to Depew as coach and High School Principal and moving to Maud a couple of years later as Superintendent and Coach. He coached many All-State games and was named the Oklahoma Coach for the Oklahoma vs Texas All Star Game in 1976.

After more than 300 wins, he was elected to the Oklahoma Girls High School Basketball Hall of Fame Growing up as a youngster it was obvious he had a great talent for basketball and softball as he starred on his high school team. He could throw a softball as well as any pitcher around and continued to do so into his early adult life. He loved to travel with his beautiful wife and visit relatives or just drive and take in the countryside.

Focusing on his grandchildren and great grandchildren was one of his great pastimes after retiring from education. He enjoyed following his former high school basketball teams and attended as many athletic events as possible. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Beverly, now residing in Seminole.

Four children, Terry McKee & husband Greg of Cordell, Connie Stephen Ramsey & wife Laurie of Sapulpa, Kevin Ramsey & wife Teresa of Broken Arrow, and Tracy Lucas of Seminole.
