Constance Horton , October 25, 1926 — November 17, 2018

Constance Stephens Horton Jolly Shakir Muhammad was born on October 25, 1926 in Marshall, Texas to Garrett Stephens and Emma Jackson. She graduated from Pendleton High School in Texas at the age of 16 and attended Wiley College and Florida A & M University. Sister Constance married Lester Horton and from this union Dale Horton was born in 1958 and five years later she received another gift named, Greta Horton.

Sister Constance became a Registered Muslim and follower of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in 1965 and attended Temple No 47, under the leadership of Minister Hastings Muhammad. Shortly, after accepting the teachings her dedication and commitment was so obvious that she was given the assignment of Captain over the Muslim Girls and Training Class in Tampa. Mother Clara Muhammad, wife of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad visited with Sister Constance several times while they were present amongst them.

She briefly served under, Iman Warith Dean Muhammad, but when she learned of the rebuilding work of The Honorable Louis Farrakhan, she assumed her post as “Helper” and went back to work for the liberation of her people. She never faulted on her word to spread peace in the way of Islam. During her 53 years of service to her people Sis.

Constance maintained work with Tampa General Hospital as a family services consultant and counselor at the Department of Corrections; where she eventually retired after 10 years of service. Sis Constance impacted all who were blessed to be in her presence. She was a loving, caring and astute person.

She was also a great teacher of women, a perfect example of obedience to Allah (God) and his representative, Minister Louis Farrakhan. She loved, living the life of a Muslim and displayed it in her actions. Sister Constance is survived by her sister, Marion Glen; first cousin, Alice Moore; son, Dale Horton; daughter, Greta Muhamad; 3 grandchildren, Khalif (Genevieve), Nabeehah and Naimah; 7 great-grandchildren, Nyeesah, Kameelah, Khalil, Kai, Dahori, Kamaari and Khashad; cousins, Alise, Kirk, Kevin, Olivia, Dorothy (Kitty) Daniels and family; friends as well as the members of the Nation of Islam.
