Curtis “Curt” Wateland, 59, of Breckenridge, MN, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, with Rev. Mark Manning officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. Curtis Bradley Wateland was born on February 22, 1959 to Glenn and Beverly (Halstenson) Wateland in Breckenridge, MN. He attended grade school in Breckenridge and later graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1977.

Curt attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND and later Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria, MN where he earned his Associate Degrees from both. In 1983, he met his future co-parent, Crystal Johnson, and together they had two children, Sarah and Savannah. They moved to Las Vegas in 1990 where Curt worked for a construction company.

In 2008, he returned to Wahpeton, and later moved to Twin Town Villa in Breckenridge. Curt loved the outdoors, whether it be camping, hiking, rock collecting, or bird watching. He also enjoyed attending swap meets and taking road trips.

Curt was a lifelong member of the “Main Gang”, and was also a diehard Minnesota Vikings fan, and never missed watching their games. Curt is survived by his father, Glenn Wateland, Wahpeton; his daughters, Sarah (Justin) Waters, Fargo, and Savannah Del Real, Las Vegas, NV; his granddaughter, Ella Waters; his siblings, Kevin (Brenda) Wateland, Wahpeton, Jan (Todd) Thompson, Fargo, and Ryan (Liz) Wateland, Sauk Rapids, MN; his former spouse and dear friend, Crystal Merrill, Las Vegas; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Wateland; and his grandparents.

Curt’s family would like to thank the staff at Twin Town Villa for the great care and compassion they have shown him over the past four years.
