OBITUARY D. Irene Summers Gray April 7, 1923 – February 4, 2019 D. Irene Summers Gray, 95, of Johnson City, Tennessee, formerly of East Quogue, NY, passed away Monday, February 4, 2019, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital. Mrs. Gray was a retired nursing educator. She graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital in 1944 as a Registered Nurse, attended Columbia University, joined the Army Nurse Corp.

, where she attained the rank of 1st lieutenant. Also, she developed BOCES School of Nursing and School for Special Needs in New York and taught there for many years. She was a member of Community Emergency Response Team.

Survivors include a daughter: Norene Griffin of Johnson City; grandchildren: Jennifer Hart of Alachua, Florida, and Jim Griffin of Johnson City; great grandchildren: Heather Honeycutt and Cameron Honeycutt, both of Alachua, Florida, Lochlan Griffin and London Griffin, of Johnson City; a nephew: Charles Summers of Oklahoma; several nieces and cousins; and many special friends, including Catherine Kelly of New York. She was the daughter of the late George and Daisy Summers and was preceded in death by her husband, William J. A. Gray; a son, James Allan Gray; a granddaughter, Amy Gray; two brothers, William and George Summers; and a sister, Martha Wasenda. The family will receive friends 4-6 pm Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 6 pm Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Stephen Spell will officiate.

Interment will be 10 am Sunday at Washington County Memory Gardens in Johnson City. Gray, Husband James Allan Gray, Son Amy Gray, Granddaughter William Summers, Brother George Summers, Brother Martha Wasenda, Sister She also leaves several nieces and cousins and many special friends to cherish her memory.
