Dale M. Johnson, long time resident of Keizer, passed away surrounded by family on May 3, 2019. Dale Martin Johnson was born on June 24, 1938 in LaGrande, OR to Benda (Ben) and Alice Christensen. He was the youngest of six children.

In his early childhood, his parents divorced, and he was raised by his mother Alice, and stepfather Don Johnson. Two more sisters were added to the family. Dale was a very hard worker, always working 2-3 jobs while attending school at Benson Polytechnic High School in Portland.

In 1957, Dale joined the Navy. Joining the Navy fed his love of traveling, and seeing new places. He traveled to Sweden, Cuba, Jamaica, Germany, Italy, the Mediterranean Sea, India, Karachi, Pakistan, and the Suez Canal, as well as other U.S. ports.

His service with the Navy ended in 1961, and he served in the US Naval Reserve for a short time. While in the Navy, he met Joyce Crum on a blind date. They were married on January 29, 1961 in Linglestown, PA.

They had three children, Tammy, Tim and Tom. In 1971, they relocated to his beloved state of Oregon, residing in Corvallis. In 1978 he started the Les Schwab Tire Center store in Keizer.

He loved the community and the friends he made while he was manager. He retired from Les Schwab in 1993. After his retirement, he and Joyce traveled the US and Alaska, as well as Mexico.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joyce, daughter Tammy McLaughlin and husband Denny, sons Tim and wife Jeniffer, Tom and wife Dawn; siblings Kelly Moberg, Patricia Klinkhammer and Priscilla Silva; seven grandchildren, Ashley Johnson, Emily Blaskie and husband Ray, Patrick McLaughlin, Kaitlyn McLaughlin, Brittany Nowell and husband Ben, Anna Johnson and Rachel Johnson; four great-grandchildren Aneilka, Evander, Christopher and Adia. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and stepfather; siblings Phyllis Newton, Walter “Chris” Christensen, Dorothy Keltz, and Neil Johnson. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 15, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the South Salem Church of Nazarene, 1661 Boone Rd.
