LEASBURG, NC – Darlene (Hlebak) Crutchfield passed away on Monday April 15, 2019 following a brief illness. Darlene was born in Youngstown, Ohio on January 18, 1947, the second of four children to Joseph and Agnes (Rubicky) Hlebak. She was a graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and was employed by GMAC for over 30 years.

On April 6, 1984 she married Calvin Crutchfield and lived in Hyattsville, MD for 32 years and eventually retiring to their home in North Carolina. Her brothers, Bob (Marlette) and Jim (Debbie) her sister, Ruth (Joe) share many memories growing up in the Nebo section of Struthers. Bikes, scooters, wagons, tag, kick the can, baby dolls, hop scotch and jacks.

Darlene loved her siblings and they loved her. She is cherished by her nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Devona, Jason, Joey, Nick, Natalie, Jimmy and Crea. She was fortunate to be able to know and meet her 26 grand nieces and nephews.

Darlene was a gentle, kind, and compassionate soul who loved to laugh. She was generous beyond her means and her love of the many that made their way into her life was unconditional. Darlene was an amazing cook.

Whether in her small apartment in Maryland or her home in North Carolina her kitchen was always open to family and her many friends and she was delighted especially when the called for second helpings. Her smile was infectious. She will be missed so very terribly and while her passing has made us all very sad, we will all rejoice in having known this beautiful lady.

Darlene was preceded in death by her mother, Agnes and her father, Joseph. She is survived by her husband, her sister, her brothers, her nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours.

The family is planning for a memorial service at a later date. Extended family members and friends will be contacted in advance of the service. In lieu of gifts of and kind please consider a donation to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrot Road, Poland, Ohio 44514 where Darlene received the most compassionate care.
