David Morgan Sanders January 21, 1941 – March 14, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card David Morgan Sanders, 78, passed away March 14, 2019 after a long illness of kidney and heart disease. David was born January 21, 1941 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Charles Morgan and Mae Penny Sanders. He grew up and attended school in Basin, Wyoming.

He was a great athlete and played football, basketball, baseball and track and received many awards for outstanding player in all sports. He graduated from Basin High School in 1959. After high school David moved to Big Piney where he started his oilfield career working for Roden Drilling and Belco Petroleum.

He met and married the love of his life Lela Lee Gurney in 1961; they were married 35 years before she passed away in 1996. In 1975 David took a job as a driller overseas working for an international drilling company on an offshore rig. His family later joined him moving to the Canary Islands and then to England.

He worked and visited many places in the world during his career including Africa, Singapore, Jakarta & Bali Indonesia, India, Holland, Scotland, Ireland, Sole S. Korea, Beijing China and many others. In his downtime he would spend coaching his boys Joe and James in basketball, football and baseball. In 1997 he moved back to the states to work for B&B Oil Field Services as a field superintendent.

After retirement he became one of the Big Piney Punchers biggest Fans. His other passions were his Corvettes and Camaros and he enjoyed traveling with his cars to show them off! David is survived by his son James (Karon) Sanders of Riverton, WY; sisters Nina Carroll of Thermopolis, WY, Charlene Hindman of Rock Springs, WY, Marilyn (Kenny) Dickenson of Riverton, WY and Patsey Reynolds of Nampa, ID; 5 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Lela Gurney Sanders; parents Charles and Mae Penny Sanders; son Joe Lyle Sanders; and two sisters Carolyn Sanders Sholtz and Sandra Sanders Comer. A funeral service will be held Saturday March 23rd at 11:00 AM at the Marbleton Senior Center. Graveside & interment will follow the in the Plainview Cemetery.

Family and friends will gather for a reception following the services at the 1st Southern Baptist Church in Big Piney. SERVICES Funeral Service Saturday, March 23, 2019 11:00 AM Marbleton Senior Center 111 Rakestraw Ave.
