David Ray Barnes March 02, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook David Ray Barnes, 65, of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, March 2, 2019 in his home following a period of declining health. He was born August 7, 1953 in Halifax County, a son of William Harvey and Betty Virginia Woodruff Barnes, both of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Barnes served our country in the US Navy.

He was a member of Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church; and, worked at Georgia Pacific for 29 years before retiring from Kennametal. Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Sue Garner Barnes; sons, Jerry Wayne Barnes and wife Tina, Stephen Lee Barnes and wife Beverly; brother, Jerry Barnes; and grandchildren, Ashley Hampton, Ryan Barnes, Cassie Barnes and Cody Barnes. The Barnes family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 pm Tuesday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service, and at other times at the residence.

Mr. Barnes’ funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to hockadayfs.com Arrangements are under the care of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.
