Dayton Julian Michael, age 88, of Morgantown, passed away Tuesday morning, May 1, 2018 at home. He was born December 19, 1929 in Hedgesville, WV, and is the son of the late Allen Lee and Daisy (Nay) Michael. He is survived by his wife 31 years, Kimberly Anne Lanham Michael; his children, Matthew Lanham and his wife Laura, Alicia and her husband Mark Stickles, Cathy Michael, Suzanne and her husband Albert Garcia; the family dog, Joey; brother Allen Lee Michael; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Steven Dayton Michael and Randy Allen Michael; brothers Lewis and W.P. Michael; a sister Edith Michael; and his step-parents, John Wesley and Marie Rollins. Dayton was a gentle and loving father and grandfather who was known for his intelligence and green thumb. All who knew him admired him for his strong work ethic.

During his life, he worked on the B & O Railroad, for West Virginia University as an agriculture professor and spent more than 27 years as a county extension agent in Marion County, WV. He was also a beekeeper and helped form the North Central West Virginia Beekeepers Association. He was a teacher at Grafton High School for three years.

Mr. Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed hunting and loved to be outdoors burning brush and getting back to his home place, especially after his retirement. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of WV Caring Hospice for all of their kind attention given to Mr. Michael during his illness.

At his request, there will be no public services, and his wishes for cremation will be honored by his family. Contributions in his memory may be made to WV Caring Hospice, 3363 University Ave. , Morgantown.
