SAMUEL EUGENE SHAW was born on October 4, 1940 in Cleveland, OH to the late Sam and Eva Shaw. He met his beautiful wife Gloria when he gave her a ride to the amusement park in his red and white Chevy. They were united in Holy Matrimony on July 9, 1960 and shared 58 years together.

To this union was born four children Sharon, Sabrina, Anthony and Angela. Samuel was educated in the Cleveland Public School system and he accepted Christ at an early age. Sam was an active member of Allen Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend Phillip Brown and the current Pastor Dr. Leon Thompson, Ph.D. Until his illness prevented him from attending church regularly, he was Chairman of the Deacon Board, and a member of the Usher Board, Mother’s Board and Hospitality Committee.

Sam (Gene) was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed grilling, he was a sports enthusiast, and he loved to keep you updated on the current news and politics. Sam retired from Tops (Dinner Bell) Distribution Center after over 30 years of service where he was the Chief Maintenance/HVAC Operator.

His other areas of expertise were as a welder and electrician. Sam departed this life on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Cleveland Clinic Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was a vigilant man and battled his illness until God called him home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, his father in law, and brother in law. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife Gloria, four children Sharon Shaw, Sabrina Shaw, Anthony Shaw and Angela (Leroy) Parmer; and his two grandchildren he raised as his own Damaris Shaw and Sharron Shaw. One brother James Shaw, four sisters Phyllis Tullos, Bernice Shaw, Velma Brown and Delores Shaw.

Two brother-in-law’s Clyde (Annie) McCoy, Jr., and Robert (Jacqueline) McCoy. Five sister-in-law’s Mary Hodge, Barbara Holliday, Belinda Smith, Charlene McCoy and Carolyn (William) Reid, and Patricia McCoy. His mother in law Shirley McCoy.

Nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
