Obituary for Dean Ashbrook W. Dean Ashbrook, 91, of Alliance, died on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at his home in Alliance. He was born on January 18, 1926 in Alliance to Wayne and Mary Ashbrook, and lived here all his life. He was a 1944 graduate of Alliance High School, a 1949 graduate of Mt.

Union College and also attended Michigan Law School. A veteran of WWII, he served our country in the U. S. Navy, in the Sea Bees, stationed in Pearl Harbor and Guam. He was a member and deacon at the Maximo Zion Church and a former member and deacon of the First Christian Church.

Dean’s extensive career began in shipping and receiving at Transues. He then took a salesman position at Alliance Machine Manufacturing and later served as a salesman at Tolerton Lumber Co He was a self-employed contractor from 1975-1987.

He found time to retire in 1981, and began to sell real estate. He continued to work in sales at Fluharty from 1988 – 1997. Mr. Ashbrook served on the City Council for over 30 years.

He cared dearly about his community and the people in it. Dean was on the Board of Trustees of the Alliance Senior Center, was the UCT Treasurer and was named UCT Man of the Year in 1986 for his outstanding service to the community. He was a longtime member of the Alliance Republican Club and was named Republican of the Year in 1993.

In his past-time, he enjoyed playing ping-pong, bowling, camping, golfing, politics, and especially watching Mount Union sports. He is survived by his three sons, Michael Ashbrook of Florida, Rev. David Ashbrook of Alliance, and Craig (Tracey) Ashbrook of Alliance; five grandchildren, Matthew, Karli, Kayla, Brent and Kristina; and four nephews.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Shirley (Myers) Ashbrook on August 5, 2012; his daughter, Judith Deen Ashbrook; his parents; and a brother, Atty. William Ashbrook. The family will receive friends at Walton-Schrader Funeral Home on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Walton-Schrader Funeral Home.

on Friday, August 11, 2017 , at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. David Ashbrook of Maximo Zion Church officiating. Interment will follow at Alliance City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www. alz.org or to Alliance Hospice, 2461 W. State St., Alliance, OH 44601. The family would like to thank his caregivers Darla Richards and Dominic Parlontieri for the kindness and care they gave to Dean.
