Dean Lewis Tippens, 96, of Belpre, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 10, 2019. He was born June 23, 1922 to Pearl (Brafford) and Guy Tippens at his grandparents (Brafford) home in Veto, Ohio. Dean graduated from Belpre High School in 1940 and attended Mountain State Business College in Parkersburg, WV.

Dean married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jane Luzader, on November 23, 1940, they were married 78 years. He proudly served his country in The U.S. Army during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 495 in Belpre.

Dean was a member of St. Mark’s Methodist Church where he served as Financial Secretary and Sunday School Teacher. He was employed by Citizen’s Transfer and Storage Co. and its successor, Peoples Cartage Inc. as office manager and rate analyst until he retired in 1987. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening with his wife, turning their yard into a place of beauty with azaleas, rhododendrons, dogwoods, daylilies and wildflowers.

Dean is survived by his wife of 78 years, Betty; children, Larry (Bonnie) of TX , Sue (John) Robinson, Beth Welcome, all of Delaware, OH, Joe (Trish) of MI, Nancy (Eddie) Miller of TX; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; sister, Elinor Norris of Belpre and nieces. He was preceded in death by sister, Irene Deems; granddaughter, Holly Ann; son-in-law, Jim Welcome; daughter-law, Phyllis Tippens. A family graveside and interment will be held in Rockland Cemetery, Belpre with Pastor Dave Hubbard.

A service of remembrance will be held at a later date at their church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Methodist Church, 302 Maple St. Belpre, Ohio, 45714. Arrangements are in care of Robinson Funeral Home, Delaware, Ohio.
