On June 7,1961 Alvin and Willie Jean Cooper welcomed their first and only bundle of joy Deborah. Deborah lost her mother Jean at the age of nine months of age. She was then raised and adopted by her grandparents “Jean parents” Professor and Selma Tharps.

Deborah attended school and finished Houston county High School in Columbia, Alabama. Debbie as so fondly called was one of the first black cheerleaders at the Houston County. Debbie was a very smart student, later attended Tuskegee Institute, Kansa State University, Kansas and Cal State, California.

Debbie lived in California for well over thirty-five years. We were very glad when Debbie moved to Dothan about four years ago. When Debbie moved back to Dothan she attended and later joined Stringer Street AME Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Fredrick Sherrod.

Debbie had been through a lot from knee surgeries God saw pain and suffering and called her home to rest on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at 1:00 AM. She was release in the arms of heavenly father. Debbie was preceded in death by her mother: Willie Jean Cooper; her father: Alvin Cooper; grandfather: Professor Tharps; grandmother: Selma Tharps; brothers: Larry Tharps.

Debbie leaves to cherish one son: Dorian Gilmore of Los Angles, CA; one grandson: Raysean Gilmore; one sister: Ruby (Victor) Laurie; one aunt: Ruby Gray of St. Louis, MO; best friend: Deirdere Frotman of Winnetka, CA, of Los Angles, CA, Poursha Gilmore of Canyon Country, CA; special cousin raised up with Randy, Vanessa, Vegina, Christine Regina, Dale Lil Larry, Adrian, Brian, Willie, Sr. Calvin, Cynthia and Diane, Rodney, Pat, Nicky and Ruse and several other relatives and friends.
