Born on July 24, 1952, to Bernice L. Stephens, in New York, NY, Deborah was raised between Bartow, FL with her loving grandmother, Vera C. Stephens, and in New York, NY with her mother Bernice, who worked in the city as a nurse. Upon completion of high school at Bartow Senior High, Class of 1970, Deborah attended Knoxville College, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, in 1974.

After working for Knoxville College as a recruiter for a few years, Deborah returned to her roots in Bartow, FL, to help care for her elderly mother and grandmother. She began what would be a 27-year career as a probation officer with the Polk County Board of County Commissioners. Deborah enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, she was an avid sports fan, a true southern culinary artist, and gardener.

Soon after her retirement in 2007, she was faced with health issues that led to her relocation to Life Care Center in Winter Haven, FL. She is survived by her son: DeBron Khari McBath, Bartow, FL; her grandsons: Major McBath, Lakeland, FL, Tristan McBath, Haines City, FL; her uncles: Rufus (Linda) Stephens and Roland Stephens of Bartow, FL; her sister-cousins: Charlotta (George Ronald) Sabb of Bartow, FL, Vera Stephens of Bartow, FL, Norja (Larry) Haygood of Clinton, MD, and Bardetta Haygood of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a host of cousins and extended family members.
