Delbert “Del” Hoercher December 21, 1946 – May 14, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Delbert “Del” Hoercher, 72, of Lennox, SD, died Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Ava’s House hospice, Sioux Falls, SD. Delbert Wayne Hoercher was born on December 21, 1946, at Belleville, Il, the son of Delbert A. and Tommie (Daugherty) Hoercher. He grew up and attended school in Mascoutah, IL He went on to attend a couple of years of college.

In 1966 he entered the US Air Force and served during the Vietnam War, until his honorable discharge in 1971. On July 25, 1987 he was united in marriage to Deborah Opheim at First English Lutheran Church, Lennox, SD. The couple lived in Germany and several other military installations throughout U.S., where he was employed by the U.S. Government as a commissary manager.

Del was a hard working man. He loved the outdoors and had enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a sea plane rated private pilot.

Most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. In 2006 he was able to take his father-in-law, Howard Opheim, guided by his son-in-law, Bob Ball, on an Alaskan fishing trip. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Deb; daughters: Shayna (Brad) Varnedoe and their children, Haakon and Brienne, all of Lakewood, CO, Corey (Bob) Ball, and their daughter, Rowan, all of Forks, WA and Amanda Rhudy of WA; brothers: Charles (Brenda) Hoercher and Michael (Colleen) Hoercher both of Il. , as well as other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Private family services will be held at a later date.
