Dencel “Denny” Raymon Smith With great sadness the family of Dencel Raymon Smith announces his passing after a four year battle with cancer on December 2, 2018 at the age of 78. Born November 17, 1940 to Jesse Thedore and Elva Marie Smith in Salem Kentucky, he enlisted in the Army as an Armored Scout and Intelligence/Counter-Intelligence Sergeant and served his country from 1961-1979 including numerous overseas and combat tours. He retired from the military to Tallahassee and became JROTC Instructor for Gadsden County School District for 13 years.

He was an active member and the Vice Chairman of the Deacon Board of Seminole Baptist Church of Tallahassee. Denny was an active Gold Card holding Mason and the District Deputy Grand Master for 7th Masonic District in 1993, Past General Secretary and 33 Degree Scottish rite mason, Past Grand Master of York rite Mason, Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and numerous other positions and offices, in several masonic bodies. He was a Graduate of Florida State University.

He was a lifelong Christian, daily worshiping and studying the Word of God. He performed Missionary work, spreading the Word to Native American schools in South Dakota and in the countries of Cuba and Belize. His charitable heart knew no bounds, he willingly provided contributions to numerous charities and organizations in need.

His trust in his fellow man and in basic human nature was one of his defining qualities. Known to friends as “Denny,” he will be lovingly remembered by his wife Patricia, his children and step children Steve (Connie) Kevin, Tracy (Mark), Paul (Kim), Hollie (James), Wendi, Michael (Stacy). Denny will also be remembered by his grandchildren Pascal, Joshua, Randy, Justin, Wesley, Kevin, Cory, Amanda, Tiffany, A.J., Allison, Danielle, Taylor, Brooke, Vincent, by his brother Jimmy (Rose), sister in law Melanie and his beloved pets Fritz and Heidi.

A private family ceremony will be held at Tallahassee National Cemetery with military honors on Friday, December 7, 2018. Officiated by Pastor Gary Linton A public memorial and celebration of life, Seminole Baptist Church, 3330 Mission Road, Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday December 8, 2018 at 1 p.m. Visitation 12:30 to 1 p.m. Officiated by Pastor Gary Linton, Music by John Paul Linton Immediately following the service will be a Masonic Service to celebrate his long and distinguished 50 year masonic career. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Courage Through Cancer Ministries, P.O. Box 4067, Tallahassee, Florida 32315.

This is a cancer support ministry dedicated to those who have been touched by cancer. Barbara Linton, President, has been with Denny throughout his illness.
