Dennis Ralph Schmidt , May 20, 1940 — May 19, 2018

On May 19, 2018, a day before his 78th birthday, our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Dennis Ralph Schmidt, departed this life to reunite with his family in heaven. He was surrounded by loved ones in Millcreek, Utah at the time of his passing. Dennis was born May 20, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ralph Waldemar and Reeda Florine Meyer Schmidt.

As a young man he attended South High School, where he was blessed to first meet Geraldine, his wife of nearly 58 years. They married August 9, 1960 and together brought four beautiful children into the world. He pursued an education in engineering at the University of Utah, before proudly undertaking a lifetime career as general contractor for his family’s carpentry and construction business.

Dennis was an eager story-teller with a playful grin. He had a clever sense of humor and unyielding love for his family. Among the many things he valued in life, he enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, working in his garden, watching football, serving for over forty years as a scout leader, and watching, reading, or listening to anything cowboy-related.

His family will fondly remember him every time they play cards, or drive past a property he had so enthusiastically recounted working on throughout his career. Dennis is preceded in death by his father Ralph, mother Reeda, and granddaughter Kylie. He is survived by his wife Geraldine and their four children: Ron (Kristi), Russ (Diane), Natalie (Blake), and Sandy (Andrew).

He is also survived by his six grandchildren—Trina, Erika, Anna, Slade, Brylie, and Kate—and his brothers Mike (Connie) and Ron (Debbie). Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Rosecrest 2nd Ward Chapel, 3101 South 2300 East. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Thursday from 9:30am to 10:30am prior to the service.
