Obituary for Dewey Lee Tiller Mr. Dewey Lee Tiller, age 80, of Honaker, Virginia, passed from this life on Wednesday (March 6, 2019) to his heavenly home at Bristol Select Specialty Hospital surrounded by his family. Born January 10, 1939 in Council, Virginia, he was a son of the late Spence and Rosa Johnson Tiller. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1957 graduate of Council High School, and had been employed as a coal miner during his early years.
Dewey was retired from Buchanan County School System as a custodian and bus driver with Council Elementary School. While there he made many lifelong friends among the staff and students, including special friends, Curt Wilson and Wayne Hale. He had farmed for over thirty-two years on Big A Mountain, where he took great pride in his cattle and property.
At the end of the day every cow was counted and the coffee pot was empty. Dewey was a proud member of the Democrat Party for over thirty years, where he made many friends within the local government. His family was the love of his life.
There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do to keep them safe, happy, and well fed. He loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors, and always regretted not getting to go deep sea fishing with Captain Jim one more time. He took great pleasure in talking to family and friends, and never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arnold and Muphus Barnhart Jessee, one granddaughter, Jennifer Dawn Davis, four brothers, William Tiller, Ted Tiller, John Henry Tiller, and James Tiller, four sisters, Angie Elswick, Martha Tiller, Nancy Jackson, and Lilly O’Quinn, and four infant siblings. Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Janice Sue Jessee Tiller; one son, Deward Lee Tiller and wife, Cheryl; one daughter, Tabitha Regina Evans, and partner, Aaron Huels; one brother, Barney Tiller and wife, Nancy; one granddaughter, Jessica Leigh Taylor and husband, Dennis; four great-grandchildren, Shane Taylor, Gabriel Gennetten, Blair Taylor, Christine Gennetten; step-grandchildren, Thomas Baer, Shawn Baer, Michael Baer and Crystal Thompson; step-great-grandchildren, Mikey Marrs, Dixie Helbert, Daisy Ramey, and Tavon Thompson; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends also survive. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bristol Regional Medical Center ICU, Bristol Select Specialty Hospital Rehab Unit, all the visitors and family for their loving care and support.
He would have loved talking to them all. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Revs. Edward Tiller, Roy Lee Wilson, Vonley Pruitt, and deacon Brenda Robinson officiating.
