Diane Allemang Wirtz, age 85, passed away early in the morning of December 21, 2018 after an evening surrounded by her family. She was born February 19, 1933 to the late Robert Raymond and Louise (Keefer) Allemang. A student at Columbus West High School, in the summer between her junior and senior year she worked as a legal secretary.

The attorney, B.B. Friedman, asked her to continue full-time when the school year began, so she finished by attending night classes at Central High School. This led to a lifelong career as a legal secretary, including working for a district attorney and in the Lazarus department store legal office. She loved all things purple and chocolate, and was happiest just staying home when not at work.

Home for her was primarily Columbus, although she also lived in Idaho, California, and Wisconsin. As a child she was raised Presbyterian, then attended King Ave UMC where she sang in the choir. In Wisconsin she attended the Baptist church where her brother-in-law was the minister, and then returning to Columbus, she was a member of a Lutheran church.

She considered herself to be a “basic Protestant”. She spent the final years of her life battling MSA, which put an end to her ability to create. She was a talented painter, and could knit and crochet the most amazing things.

In addition to her parents, Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wirtz, younger brother, Michael, and sister-in-law, Peg Allemang. She is survived by daughter, Susanne “Charlie” Buechler; grandchildren, Bern (Ashley) Buechler, Doug Buechler, and Amelia Buechler; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Oliver Buechler; brother, Denman Allemang; nephews, Don (Kathy) Allemang and Dean Allemang; cousin, Jim (Nancy) Smith: and other family and friends. Thanks to the caregivers who have loved and tended to her over the past several years, especially Nicole, who was the first to make her feel safe once she left her home, and who called her “Blue Eyes” and everyone at Ohio Living Hospice.

Per Diane’s wishes, services will be limited. There will be no viewing, just a simple graveside service at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 26 at Green Lawn Cemetery, followed by a luncheon.
