Djuro Opsenica, age 91, passed away Saturday evening, February 16, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Jelena Opsenica; Loving father of Ljiljana (Stevo) Petkovic, Milka (Michael) Conley, and the late Marija; Dear grandfather of Bobby (Tina), Dawn (Richard) Ruszat, Jelena Petkovic, Djuro (Jenny) Petkovic, Sean Conley, and Nikolas Conley; Fond great-grandfather of 7 and great-great grandfather of 2; Devoted uncle of Joyce (the late Peter) Boricic, Danko (Nena), Snezana (Alex) Lizowsky, and MaryAnn (The late Mirko) Cikara and many other nieces and nephews in Europe. Cherished Kum and friend to many.

Djuro was a long-time employee of the American Red Cross until his retirement in 1989. During WWII, he served proudly as a Chetnik soldier under the direction of General Draža Mihailovic. He was a devout member of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church, The Organization of Serbian Chetniks “Ravna Gora” and Serbian National Defense Council of America.

Resting Friday, February 22, 2019 at Muzyka & Son Funeral Home, 5776 W. Lawrence Ave. , Chicago, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with Pomen (Wake Service) 7:00 p.m. Opelo (Funeral Service) Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at New Gracanica Serbian Orthodox Monastery, 35240 W. Grant Ave. , Third Lake.
