Obituary for Doak Neal Henry Doak Neal passed away Tuesday morning at his home in Medina Texas at the age of 87. Doak was born in San Antonio, on July 10, 1931. Doak lived his life in San Antonio, and after running a successful business, retired to the Hill Country in 1988 to his property outside of Medina.
For those of you that knew him well, Doak took life by the horns and rode it long and hard, with no regrets. Flying was his passion, and airtime exhilarated him, bringing him many hours of joy over the years. He was an avid hunter and adventurer, traveling all over the world.
His hunting expeditions took him from the Arctic to Africa, and many stops in between. While enjoying his time in the Hill Country, he enjoyed tickling the ivories of his Baby Grand, entertaining family and friends. He lived his later years peacefully with his wife Loretta, at Cherry Mountain Ranch.
When asked if there was anywhere else he wanted to go, he always responded “Why in the hell would I want to go anywhere else! ” He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, class of 1949, and graduated from Texas A&M College in 1952 with a degree in Economics. He was commissioned in the United States Air Force, active duty from 1952 to 1954.
Doak served as President of Neal Inc. since 1968, when he became sole owner of the corporation. Neal Inc. is a gasoline distributor for Exxon and One Stop convenience stores, serving San Antonio and South Texas. In 1973, Doak was the first entrepreneur to convert the traditional jobber/dealer operation into a convenience food store/self-serve gasoline chain in the San Antonio market.
In his later years, he served as Chairman. He was past Director of United Fund, and T.O.M.A.
He was also members of Conopus Club, The Order of Alamo and The Argyle. Doak is survived by his wife of 35 years, Loretta, six children and six grandchildren: Luis Jane Neal, Doak Neal and his children Wesley and Alyssa Low, Shannon Dakin and husband Tom Dakin and their children Audrey and Mackenzie, Grayson Langelier and her children Adrienne and Ali Jones, mother of his two great grandchildren, Carson and Owen, Clint Neal and his wife Lara, and Shane Neal and his wife Courtney. Services Services will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North on Cherry Ridge at 12:00 pm on Friday September 28, 2018.
