Obituary for Donald C. “Duck” Wirfel WIRFEL – Donald C., “Duck,” 72, died October 18, 2018, at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital. Born July 5, 1946, in Cambria Township, son of John G. and Genevieve (Illig) Wirfel. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Camillus and Herbert; and brother-in-law, Clyde W. Gallardy.
Survived by brothers and sisters, Leo, married to Joann Minor, Madison, Ohio; Ronald, married to Rose Ann Sherry, New Germany; Dolores, wife of Dennis Bodenschatz, North Canton, Ohio; Joseph, married to Jean Krise, St. Augustine; Michael, married to Jean Brown, New Germany; Marjorie Gallardy, New Germany; Suzette, wife of Joseph Spinner, Munster; sisters-in-law, Patricia Wirfel, Madison, Ohio and Elizabeth (Wirfel) McMahon, Ebensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Don was a graduate of Bishop Carroll High School, class of 1964. He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era and was a carpenter with Pat Dumm Construction Company.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Germany. He was very active with the St. Michael American Legion Post 551 and their color guard and was also a member of the GBU in Summerhill. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork where vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Viewing will also be held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fr.
Leon Hont, OSB, celebrant. Military service by St. Michael American Legion Post 551. Following cremation, a committal service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Germany.
