Funeral service for Donald Eugene Sudbrook “Pappaw”, 86, of Concord Twp. OH, will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, February 11, 2019 at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville. Friends will be received 3:00 – 6:00 PM, Sunday, February 10th at the funeral home.

Donald was born on March 19, 1932 in Jackson, Ohio to John and Clara Sudbrook. He grew up in Minford, Ohio where he met his lovely bride Wanda, and they married on October 2, 1951 in Greenup, Kentucky. Don proudly served in the United States Army as a Private First Class (PFC) and was briefly stationed in Panama after they had their first daughter Barbara.

He then moved to Painesville where they had son Larry, daughter Patricia, and son Jeffrey, and he retired from Uniroyal as a Maintenance Specialist. Don enjoyed travelling and made sure to attend as many family events as he could and loved to visit warm destinations such as Phoenix and Disney World to spend time with loved ones. He was an avid story teller and would strike up conversations with anyone who would lend an ear.

A lot of his stories revolved around baseball as he was passionate about the game and would spend a lot of time throughout the years coaching Painesville Little League, senior league, men’s softball, umpiring, and helping recruit players for St Bonaventure College. He passed on that immense love of the game to his sons, grandkids, and great grandkids. He enjoyed walking around his neighborhood with Wanda on their daily ‘strolls’ and would then settle down for a coffee break along with a sweet handmade treat, courtesy of Wanda.

He was a constant handy man around his house – fixing anything that broke and snow blowing his driveway up until the day he went to the hospital. He spent his life being a wonderful husband, father, friend, baseball fan, and Pappaw. He is survived by Wanda; his two daughters, Barbara (Bill) Simko of Orlando, Florida, Patricia (Jim) Kenesky of Perry; two sons, Larry (Bev) Sudbrook of Bradford, Pennsylvania, Jeff (Cheryl) Sudbrook of Avon; 8 grandchildren, Tiffany (Jason) Wiberg, Joshua (Amanda) Kenesky, Shane (Kailei) Sudbrook, Dustan Simko, Cory (Amber) Sudbrook, Travis Kenesky, Troy Sudbrook, Ryan Sudbrook; and 8 great grandchildren, Landon, Cooper, Riley, Ethan, Carly, Brody, Vanessa, and Wyatt.

He also leaves behind a sister, Dorothy Brock and Sharon Sieson. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, James and Carl; and sisters Ruth and Faye.
