Donald Gene Niper, 72, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, beloved husband, father, brother, son, and friend to so many, passed away at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD on Sunday, December 9, 2018 after a quick but hard-fought battle with acute pancreatitis. Don was born in Easton, PA on April 26, 1946. Preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Jean Niper, and his sister Barbara Dixon.

Don is survived by his wife Linda, his brother Robert, his two sons Matthew and Brian, their wives Chrissy and Laura, as well as grandsons Brett, Carter, Grayson, Damon and Maxwell. After graduating from Robert E. Peary High School in 1964, Don served three years in the Army while being stationed in Germany before returning home to the United States. While working as a store manager for Drug Fair, he met his future wife Linda.

Don and Linda got married on June 26, 1971. Don and Linda enjoyed each other’s company for a few years before deciding to expand their family. In early 1979, Don and Linda moved into their new house in Damascus, MD and weeks later had their first son, Matthew in February 1979.

Two years later, they had another son, Brian, and decided that two boys were all they could handle. Over the years, Don held various other positions of employment, and for the final and longest stretch of his working career he was a Field Technician Services Zone Manager for CVS. Don retired in June of 2013, which gave him time to explore some of his favorite hobbies and interests, which included bike riding, trains, and geocaching.

Don loved music, and in his spare time enjoyed playing his extensive record collection. Don also loved movies, sports, both watching and coaching, and carrying on casual conversations with friendly people. He was kind, caring, and always there whenever you’d need him.

Don was everything you could ever ask for in a son, brother, husband, father, and friend, and his loss will be felt deeply. But for those who knew him, they were truly blessed to be a part of his great life. Don’s memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 27015 Ridge Rd, Damascus, MD 20872 on Saturday, December 15, 2018.
