OBITUARY Donald Lee Summers October 3, 1940 – January 14, 2019 On Monday January 14, 2019, Donald Lee Summers of Winter Park, FL passed away with family by his side in Evansville, IN at the age of 78. Don was born and raised in Shoals, IN but left in 1958 when he joined the Navy at the young age of 17. For the next 21 years, he travelled the world as a submariner and cryptologic technician.

After retiring from the Navy, he worked for the school board as an air condition mechanic until retirement age. In retirement, he became more involved in veteran’s groups including the American Legion and VFW. He was most passionate about the 40/8 and their Child Welfare Program, holding multiple positions including Sous Directeur South.

Don met Traute while stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany where they married in 1969. They had 2 children, Christine Sue and Patrick Lee, before moving to Winter Park, FL in 1977. Sadly, Traute passed away in 1994.

Don then found the 2nd love of his live, Dinah and through their marriage in 1998 he gained another daughter, Roseanna Dale. Dinah passed away in July 2018. Don is survived by his children Christine S. Townsend, Patrick L. Summers and Roseanna D. Fowler, his grandchildren, Georgia Summers, Logan and Aubrie Fowler, and his brother Joe Summers.

The family requests donations to the 40/8 Child Welfare Program in lieu of flowers.
