Donald Preston Cubbage, 82, of Great Falls, passed away peacefully November 21, 2018 at Benefis Eastview with his family at his side. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grand-father, great-grandfather, and friend. Don was in the Marine Corp as a Marine Corp Sgt with the C-1-9 for three years.

He worked for the Great Northern Railroad, Anaconda Co. Bureau of Reclamation, Great Plains Lumber & Supply Co. and Consolidated Freight Co. from 1954-1962. In 1962 Don went to work for the Great Falls Gas. Co. (now Energy West) where he was a Field Serviceman and Troubleshooter for 35 years, retiring in April of 1997.

Don and Ruth also had a water hauling business from 1972-1984 On New Years Eve in 1959, he married the love of his life, Ruth Marie Calkins. Together they raised four children, Randall, Kurt, Stacy and Kevin. Don loved sports and participated in all of them.

He was on a utility league for bowling and golf for 30 years. Don and Ruth spent many years enjoying camping and fishing at Bean Lake and Willow Creek. They truly enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with their dearest friends, Sherm and Joyce Mills at the Mills’ Cabin.

Many Rainbow Trout were brought home through the years! After Don’s retirement, Ruth started having health issues that continued through the years until her passing in November of 2016. Don dedicated those years caring for our beautiful mother without ever missing a beat.

He was a true Angel and they were both real fighters. Don is survived by his children; son, Kurt (Renee) and grandchildren, Dawn (fiancée, Chase), great-grandchildren, Andrew, Gauge and Grayson; Maygen (Aaron), great-granddaughter, Abrianna; Brittney (Ryan) all of Kansas; daughter, Stacy (Jeff) Anderson, grandson, Logan (Alanna) all of Great Falls; son, Kevin (Lori), grandchildren, Kayla, Lindsey and Ryan, all of Colorado; brother and sister, John (Crystal) Cubbage and Jane (Al) Hill and sister, Margie (Brian) Bass. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Ruth; son, Randall, and parents, Clara and Donald Cubbage.

No services are planned. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. “Thank you, Mom and Dad for all the wonderful years you gave us as a family”.

Now Dad…. go play a few rounds of golf and take Mom camping and fishing again. We will love and miss you forever, Papa!
