At that time he and his family moved to Sacramento, where he worked for the Army Depot until his retirement in 1979. He always enjoyed working with his son-in-law Tony on Tony’s family dairy in Elk Grove, and it became a full-time “hobby” after his retirement. He was devoted to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
For many years Don and Mary spent summers with their family and friends in Elk Grove and winters with their friends and “family” in Yuma, AZ. Don is survived by his loving daughter RuthAnn Machado (Tony), and son Doug (Carol), as well as grandchildren Douglas Machado (Michelle), Troy Machado (Durita), Melissa Abernathy, and Jeffrey White (Ella). He also leaves his great-grandchildren Trevor and Maddison Machado, Rex and Reed Machado, and Gianna and Aria White; his sisters Pauline Parker and Betty Kaufman of Illinois, and many “adopted” children and grandchildren, family, and friends.
He was a life-long St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan. The family would like to thank his very patient caregiver, Jason, as well as UCDavis Hospice. A celebration of Don’s long and wonderful life will be held at Florin United Methodist Church (7560 Florin Road) on Wednesday, July 11 at 11:00 AM.
