Donald “Skinny” Mohler, 85, of Bemidji, MN died Monday, December 3, 2018 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Mike Naylor officiating. A Time of Sharing will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Bemidji. Donald Eugene “Skinny” Mohler was born January 29, 1933 to Thomas and Esther (Mahn) Mohler on a farm in Helga Township, Hubbard County on Beltrami County and Hubbard County Line. Later, the family moved into Bemidji.

At age of 4 years, a neighbor started calling him “Skinny” and it stayed with him all these years. Many didn’t know his real name. He was baptized and confirmed Lutheran.

He attended grade school at Central Elementary School. Skinny graduated from Bemidji High School in 1952. After graduation he went into the Navy Sea-Bee’s MCB#4 from 1952 to 1956 and was a heavy equipment operator doing construction work at Guantanamo Bay.

After he was discharged, he came back to Bemidji and continued house and building moving “Mohler Movers” with his father and brothers. Skinny continued house moving until he retired (which was hard for him to do) after so many years. On April 26, 1958 he married Ethel Morris.

They were married for 60 years. Skinny was a volunteer fireman for 20 years from 1964 to 1984, was a member of MN House Moving Assoc. , American Legion, VFW and Moose.

In his younger years he played football, baseball, curling, enjoyed fishing and hunting. Survived by his wife Ethel Mohler, Bemidji; Sons, Charles Mohler, Bemidji; Kevin Mohler, Bemidji and David (Michelle) Mohler, Bemidji and Daughter Linda Nei, Wahpeton, North Dakota; 3 Grandchildren, Frank, Andrew & Hillary, 4 Great Grandchildren, Bradley, Zoe, Ayla & Taton and a Brother, Mark (Midge) Mohler, Osseo, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas & Esther Mohler; brothers, Leonard Mohler, Thomas Mohler and Norman Mohler.
