He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald & Pauline (Korey) Nelson, and his brother, Eric Nelson. Don is survived by his daughter Jennifer McCoy (George) & grandson Ezra John; brother Mark Nelson (Susan), sister Paula Takacs (Ronald), nephews & nieces Keith, Elizabeth, Brett, Samantha, Alex (Godson), Julia, Nathan, McKinley, Paisley & Amelia; aunts and uncles Adele Korey, Joe & Mitzy Korey & Joanne Korey; cousins Roy Nelson, Christine Korey Schwarz, Tom Korey, Dan Korey, Ron Korey, Jerry Korey (deceased), Chuck Korey, Rob Lasky, Diane Korey, Eva Lasky Speaks, Renee Korey Sines, Rick Korey, Kathy Lasky Brown, Lisa Korey (deceased) & Stacey Korey Hornack.

Don attended Union Presbyterian Church presided by the Rev. Derrick Campbell and had great neighbors Adam Benton, Chris & Kim Scutt and Donna Doyle. A unique craftsman born to build was retired from the Pittsburgh Carpenter’s Local Union 432.

His last year, he volunteered with his trained therapy dog, Holly (Instagram name “Holywoodstardog”), bringing comfort to patients at the Hillman Cancer Center, and Shadyside and Mercy Hospitals. Friends are welcome Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 10AM to noon at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak. (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director.

Memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 12 noon, officiated by Rev. Thomas Snyir, the chaplain at the fire departments of Newport News, VA. and Holly’s new owner.
