OBITUARY Donna Kathryn Sowers March 28, 1951 – November 27, 2018 Donna Kathryn (Jones) Sowers March 28, 1951 – November 27, 2018 Donna Kathryn (Jones) Sowers of Fort Myers, FL, passed away on November 27, 2018. She was a beloved teacher, mother, sister, wife, and friend. Donna was born on May 28, 1951 in Lubbock, TX and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1973 with a BA in Mathematics.

Teaching math was Donna’s passion. During her career spanning 44 years, she inspired through kindness and understanding and cared deeply about each and every student. A long-time Chair of the Estero and Fort Myers High School Math Departments, she seldom missed a day of work and spent her free-time coaching the schools’ math teams to numerous top-10 finishes in National Math Competitions.

Donna’s love of math was contagious, and many of her students – including her dearly loved sons, Wesley and Christopher – went on to pursue careers in STEM. Outside the classroom, Donna enjoyed reading, travelling, and spending time with friends and family. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Michael Sowers of Fort Myers, FL; her sons Wesley Sowers of Richardson, TX and Christopher Sowers of Los Angeles, CA; her sisters Nancy London of Dallas, TX, and Debra Jones of Oklahoma City, OK; her grand-children Gregory and Margaret Sowers of Richardson, TX; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Donna was predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Colin Jones, and her brother Gary Jones. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2018 in the sanctuary of Cypress Lake United Methodist Church, 8570 Cypress Lake Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33919. The family will receive friends and family at a reception immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Fort Myers High School Math Team or to the ALS Foundation.
