Doris A. Meaney, formerly of Lynn and Merrimac, MA, 92, devoted wife of the late Lawrence Meaney, died on December 29, 2018 at the Merrimack Valley Health Center in Amesbury. She was born on March 20, 1926 in Florence, MA to the late Edward A. and Caroline (Schickling) Hebert. Doris was primarily a stay at home Mom, but while caring for her family she helped her parents run their variety store.

She was an avid DIY home carpenter who installed her own kitchen and bath as well as handling any home repairs. She also helped her parents clear land and build a beachfront at their retirement home on Lake Winnepesaukee. She was a skilled volunteer and seamstress who made vestments for St. Joseph’s Church in Lynn, her and her sisters wedding gowns and bridesmaids gowns, as well as all her children’s clothes for many years.

Her entire family was active in the VFW, and she was elected President of Auxiliary Post 507 at the age of 20, youngest in the U.S. Over the years she and her sisters sang and entertained at many Veterans homes, she loved singing her whole life. Doris is survived by her children, Kathleen Meaney of Newburyport, Susan Martel and her husband Steven of Groveland, Mary Croteau and her husband Arthur of Newburyport, and Lawrence Meaney of Ellsworth, ME; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister Patricia Sweeney, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Doris was predeceased by her sisters, Jean Allard, Gertrude Clement, and Edna Gallant.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday January 2, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Thursday January 3, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery both in Newburyport. Memorial contributions may be made in Doris’ name to the charity of ones choice.
