Doris’ Obituary Doris, of Vista Springs Retirement Community, Howell, formerly of Buffalo Crossing, FL, passed away Monday, March 11th, at St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital, Howell. Doris was born October 9, 1925, in Detroit, the daughter of James and Helen (Marshall) Brown. Doris was a retired railroad accountant for the New York Central Railroad, later changed to Penn Central, then Conrail in Detroit.

While working at the railroad, she met and married Joseph Yankosky on April 30, 1955. When her job was transferred to Philadelphia, PA, she froze her pension until she was old enough to retire. Although her husband, Joe, was also a railroad employee, he was management and did not get transferred.

Between them, they had 70 years of railroad service. When Joe retired in 1983, they moved permanently to the Continental Country Club in Wildwood, FL. Although, they returned to South Lyon every year to escape the hot summer months.

Sadly, Joe preceded Doris in death on January 2, 2017. Doris was of the Catholic faith, a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, former member of the National Association of Railway Business Women, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, and Continental Country Club’s 18th Hole Womens’ golf league. Moreover, she was a 16-year volunteer at Leesburg Regional Hospital.

She also enjoyed golf, arts and crafts. She loved to cruise, and she and Joe visited all 50 states, as well as the provinces of Canada while driving the full distance of the Alaska Highway and the Trans Canada Highway from Vancouver BC to St. Johns, Newfoundland. She also enjoyed extensive travel abroad including Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, to especially include, Joan Gurke, John Barwick, Janet Chmela, Carol Gardy, Doris Birchmeier and Dwight Yankosky, as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Doris’ Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning, April 12th, at 10:00 am, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd. , Farmington.
