Doris Darlyne Goitein passed away of natural causes on October 16, 2018, in Titusville, New Jersey at the age of 96. She was born Doris Darlyne Meyer on December 10, 1921, in Lake Park, Iowa to John Robert Meyer and Norma Lage Meyer. Doris earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of Northern Iowa, and later taught at Anamosa High School and Davenport High School in Iowa.

While stationed at the Fort Dix Army Hospital in New Jersey, Doris met her future husband, Theodore E. Goitein, as her patient. He was an Army Air Corps tail gunner recovering from injuries sustained after his B-17 was shot down over France.
After the war, Doris practiced physical therapy at the Cerebral Palsy Clinic in Trenton, New Jersey and taught at Steinert High School in Hamilton, New Jersey. She was also a summer camp director at Bonnie Brook Horse Farm in Furlong, Pennsylvania. After raising her children, Doris hosted the Titusville Quilting Club in her home weekly since 1970, as well as countless gatherings of her large, extended family.
Doris was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a cherished friend to many. She is remembered for her effusive warmth and positivity, which she shared among all who knew her. Friends and family treasured her sense of humor, bright smiles and unyielding tendency to care for and look after others.
She had a particular way of sharing these qualities with young people, which she often realized through a passion for hand-making and giving away quilts – a craft she learned as a young Iowa farm girl. Mrs. Doris Goitein was predeceased by her husband, Theodore E. Goitein, and brother, Arlo H. Meyer. She is survived by her sisters, Darlene Meyer Grieder, Marlene Meyer Gronewald and brother John Henry Meyer; her children, Debra Goitein Hodge, Mark L. Goitein and Sherry L. Gallagher (Brian); grandchildren, Devon Hodge Vurgason (Aaron), Ian M. Hodge, Laura Goitein Mooney (Sam), Katie L. Goitein and Duncan M. Gallagher; great-grandchildren, Reagan and Baron Vurgason, Adreanna and Jade Mooney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Saturday November 17 at 11:30 am at Mountain View Golf Clubhouse, 890 Bear Tavern Road, Ewing, NJ 08629. A memorial service will immediately follow at noon. Mrs. Goitein will be buried privately at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.
