She grew up on a farm near Miller where she learned the value of hard work and dedication to family. When Doris was five years old, her father died leaving her mother with six children and a farm to care for. With God’s help and the kindness of relatives and neighbors, they survived.

Doris went to school at Ellington #8 in Hancock County, graduated from Garner High School in 1943 and Waldorf College in 1944. After working at several jobs during the war, she landed a job at Olson Furniture in Forest City. It was there that she met the love of her life.

She married Marvin Juhl in 1947 at Ellington Prairie Lutheran Church in southeast of Miller. They were married for 66 years at the time of his death in 2013 and there was rarely a cross word spoken between them. They raised four children who proudly claim they are the luckiest children because they were brought up with a love of family and a quest for knowledge and adventure.

Annual camping trips took them to every state west of the Mississippi, often in search of a rock or two to add to their vast lapidary collection. In 1968, Doris went to work at Winnebago Industries in the Accounts Receivable Department. After her retirement in 1988, Marvin and Doris continued to travel and work on their rocks.

Doris’s creative nature, patience and attention to detail led to many hobbies including sewing, quilting, knitting and faceting gems. Doris has been a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. Doris is survived by her children; Randy (Renee) of Glenshaw, PA, Tom (Stacie) of Bloomfield, IA, Marcia (Travis)Brunsvold of Bettendorf, IA and Rick (Ann) of Surprise, AZ.
