Doris L Durgin , October 13, 1923 — December 10, 2018

Doris L (Vaillancourt) Durgin of Beverly passed away on December 10th, 2018 surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was 95 years old. Born in Danvers, on October 13 1923, she was the fourth of ten children, the second daughter of Alexina (Gagnon) and Amedee Vaillancourt.

Educated in Danvers schools, she was a graduate of Wilfred Beauty Academy in Boston, MA and worked for several years as a hairdresser before working in manufacturing at several factories in Danvers. Doris… Read More » met her husband when assigned to work “a man’s job” at Vulcan Electric during WW II, asking “if I don’t like it, can I go back to my other job? ” She was most proud of her nearly 30 years of employment at GTE/Sylvania and her membership in the Quarter Century Club.

Doris will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her legendary Father’s Day cookouts and family dinners as well as her time spent at her house “up country” in New Hampshire. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to tell jokes and used to say “there’s always room for one more” at her dining room table. She is survived by her grandchildren, Kristin Rickert and her husband Eric of Buffalo NY, Jacob Nadeau and his wife Eva of Beverly MA and her great grandson Sumner.

She is also survived by 5 brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carol Nadeau, in 1992 and her husband of over fifty years, Sumner Durgin, in 2001 as well as her parents, brothers Albert, Arthur, and Wilfred Vaillancourt and a sister Adele Martin. A graveside service will be held at Central Cemetery, Beverly, on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home 525 Cabot St. Beverly, Ma 01915. In lieu of flowers, Doris’s family requests donations in her memory to VNA Hospice. At her family’s request, there will be no visiting hours.
