New Bern – Doris L. Pfeiffer, 83, died Friday, March 22, 2019 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville. She was born February 26, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Harry John and Lillian Therkorn Ehlen. She was an ambassador for RHA Howell Care Center as well as a co-surrogate parent.

She is survived a daughter Karen Kelly of Wilmington; sister, Marjorie Ehlen of Portland, OR; two grandson, Ryan Kelly (Lauren) of Hickory, NC and Kurt Kelly (Clare) of Wilmington; and a special great-grandson, Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Pfeiffer. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havelock.

Burial will be 2:00 p.m. at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends at Pollock-Best Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 305 US Hwy. 70 W., Havelock, NC 28532; RHA Howell Center, 140 Pirates Road, New Bern, NC 28562; or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
