Obituary of Doris (Cummings) Woodruff Doris Jean Cummings Woodruff was born on August 9, 1935 to parents Glen and Alice Cummings. She entered Heaven on February 3, 2019. A Service of Resurrection and Reflection will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the United Presbyterian Church in Columbus Junction.

Immediately following the service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Louisa County Historical Society Endowment, P.O. Box 34, Morning Sun, IA 52540 or the Columbus Junction Public Library in memory of Doris.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www. lewisfuneralhomes.com. Surviving are her husband, Tom of 62 years, daughters Lorie (Mike) Hoffman and Deanne (Dan) Mitas; brother, Brian (Kristie) Cummings; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Alice Cummings, and twin brother, Dean at birth. She attended colleges at Monmouth, Iowa Wesleyan, Augustana and Marycrest University obtaining and continually renewing her Teachers Certification. Doris taught in Sperry, Iowa and later worked at the University hospital in Iowa City.

Over 62 years of marriage, and while living in many locations, they built their favorite get-a-way cabin and developed a woodlands on the Coralville reservoir called Sherwood Forest. Doris was always active in her many churches attended serving on numerous boards and committees. Doris was an excellent student, always reading with biographies being her favorites.

She was especially well read on the subjects of nutrition and the sciences. She will always be remembered as the quiet anchor of our family – a consistent example of how to always live your life with your Faith as your guide. Doris was a loving and kind person who genuinely and always put others first.
