Dorothiea C Dot Smeal , January 05, 1928 — September 13, 2018

Dorothiea C. “Dot” Smeal, 90, of Philipsburg and formerly of Gearhartville, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield. Born January 5, 1928 in Hawk Run, she was a daughter of the late Joseph & Ann (Rupe) Jackson. Dot was a lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist Church, West Decatur, where she was a Sunday school teacher of the kindergarten and first grades; was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society, the Kitchen Committee,… Read More » and a Vacation Bible School Volunteer; she missed this year for the first time, due to her health.

She loved working with the kids. Dot was a former treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 43 of West Decatur and Boy Scout Troop 41 of Chester Hill. She was a past officer of the West Decatur Senior Citizens, the Chester Hill Mother’s Club and the Philipsburg Area Hospital Auxiliary.

She loved puzzle books and beach trips with her family. Dot had been employed with McGregor’s Sewing Factory, General Cigar, and Ames. On April 21, 1946 at the former United Brethren Church (now Grace United Methodist Church), she married Oliver R. “Pete” Smeal, who passed away January 24, 2018.

Dot is survived by three daughters, Cheri Verbeck and her husband Robert of South Philipsburg, Nancy Fetters of Glen Hope and Debbie Johnston of Madera; a son Joseph R. Smeal and his wife Michele of South Carolina; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers Jackie, Joseph and Clifton; six sisters Sylvia, Renerva, Sally, Gertrude, Margaret and June; and a great grandson Torin Verbeck. A funeral service will be held at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 167 Blue Ball Rd.

, West Decatur, on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 3pm with Pastor Sarah Kim officiating. Burial will be at Mock’s Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received at the church on Sunday from 2 to 3pm prior to the service.
