OBITUARY Dorothy Ann Barnes April 19, 1943 – December 2, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Dorothy Ann Barnes, 75, of Cross Lanes, WV met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 2, 2018. Dorothy is now free from all sickness, disease, and pain that she has struggled with for the past several years. She is in her right mind, and is more alive now than she ever was before.
She now has the ability to jump and shout, but she is most likely kneeling and weeping tears of joy. Kneeling before her Creator and Redeemer as He wipes away every tear from her eyes. Dorothy was born on April 19, 1943 to her parents Denver and Macil Page.
Her Dad was tragically killed when she was just three years old. So Macil , (Mom Page) had to work many hours just to make ends meet. Dorothy, and her six siblings: Norma, Charles, Winston, Ralph, Emma, and Raymond grew up relying on each other.
Over the years, as the family grew, and some of the siblings moved away, there was always a continued closeness and connection between them all. The family recalls many special “get togethers” up on the mountain with lots of laughs, spreads of food, Canasta playing “bun burnin”, and many tender moments. The Page Siblings grieved deeply when they lost their beloved Mom far too soon to Cancer.
Later, they lost their precious Emma “Sissy” and then Charles. For every loss, there was a deep and tender void left in Dorothy’s Heart. Dorothy leaves behind her husband of 57 years, and faithful caretaker, Cecil; her beloved sons Darius, Danny (Mari), and Donnie (Cookie); her grandchildren Amanda (Carl), David, Emma, and Sam; her great grandchildren Ayden and Ciara; her remaining siblings Norma (Bill), Winston, Ralph, and Raymond (Ruth); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Our hearts are grieving the loss of such a precious wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, but our hearts rejoice that she is finally free. We have the confidence of knowing that she is with the Lord because Dorothy knew that (like all of us) she needed a Savior. Her granddaughter (Amanda) recalls many nights waking up to her precious Mawmaw burning the midnight oil in prayer.
She would find her sitting in her living room recliner pleading for the souls of her lost loved ones. She would often call them out by name. She would have tears in her eyes and would ask the Lord to wake them up and to save them.
Amanda also recalls her Mawmaw relying on the Lord for every day provision. Before every meal, (like most Christians) Dorothy would thank God for her food, and ask Him to bless it to the nourishment of her body. She knew the provision of food came from Him alone.
She would tell Amanda (before leaving for school) “Drive slow, and pray”. Dorothy relied on the Lord for protection over her and her family. When Dorothy was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and later chronic Pancreatitis, she cried out to the Lord in prayer.
She relied on the Lord alone for His healing. In more recent years, when she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and then Parkinson’s Dementia, she would still cry out to her Lord. Amanda recalls times throughout this very difficult journey, when her Mawmaw would whisper the Name of Jesus.
Dorothy may not have known in the physical realm where she was or sometimes even who she was, but her spirit still knew from where her help would come. Amanda acknowledges that neither her nor her Pawpaw could have gotten through this very trying time without the help of the Lord. In every scary and unsure moment, the Lord came through just in time.
Now, Dorothy has received her ultimate healing. She is with her Lord and would certainly look forward to the day when she would see all of her loved ones again. Her heart’s desire was that each and every one of her family members, friends, acquaintances, neighbors, and every tribe and tongue would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Please, if you don’t know Him-Ask, Seek, and Knock. The door of salvation will surely be opened to you. Just ask Christ Jesus to cleanse you of all unrighteousness; acknowledge Him as Lord; turn from any sin; get in His word every day.
He will never leave you nor forsake you. Dorothy will have a private home going service with family and friends on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Pastor Joey McCutcheon officiating; and will be laid to rest at Tyler Mountain Memorial Garden. Viewing will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, with the service immediately following.
There will not be a graveside service. Cecil and Amanda would like to thank everyone who has checked in on them, brought food, and given a helping hand over the last several years. Judy, Lois, Insuk, and John, you have been the hands and feet of Jesus to us.
