Dorothy A. Gallaway, 83, of Lincoln, DE, passed away on Monday January 21th, 2019 from complications due to COPD. Dorothy A. Gallaway was born in Pompano Beach, FL on May 22nd, 1935 to the late Ruby Lee Colbert and the late James Marshall. She attended the Braithwaite School in Deerfield, FL.

Following the early passing of her mother, Dorothy along with her two older brothers moved to Georgetown, DE in 1948 to be raised by her father. Dorothy was a woman rich in family and heritage. Her late mother, Ruby Lee, was of French/ Native American (Blackfoot Indian) descent.

As such, Dorothy would at times speak French and excelled in cooking Native American cuisine such a cornmeal dumplings, corn pone and cornmeal mush. She was employed for twenty plus years as a certified nursing assistant in Lakewood, NJ. Besides being a dedicated caretaker of others, she loved to read, play card games, dance, sing, and complete crossword puzzles.

More than anything, she loved her family, and she loved the Lord. Dorothy Gallaway is preceded in death by her parents, Ruby Lee Colbert and James Marshall, a daughter, Patricia A. Williams, a grandson, Jaime Williams and a son-in-law Oscar Williams, Jr. Dorothy is survived by six children: Ernest Colbert of Macon, GA; Gloria-jean Colbert of Macon, GA; Barbara A. Williams (husband, Oscar/ deceased) of Houston, DE; Ronald E. Colbert (partner, Marlene) of Milford, DE; Anthony D. Marshall of Wilmington, DE; Angileen Mullen (husband, Jerome) of Ellendale, DE; ten grandchildren: Tonya Williams, Oscar L. Williams, Theodora Davis, Sheila Dean, Regina Williams, Ronald Dean, Melissa Marshall, Antonia Harris, Dante Williams, Randy Colbert; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; one half-sister Nettie Bynum; two brothers James Marshall and Ernest Marshall; a long-standing significant other Van Dyke Mapp, and a host of family members and friends. A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 where there will be a viewing from 10:00 unit 11:00 A.M. Saturday.
