Obituary for Dorothy C. Freidhof Dorothy C. Freidhof Age 94 of O’Hara Twp. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Concordia of Monroeville. She was born on July 18, 1924 in Charlestown, Ohio to her parents, Otto and Catherine (Mueller) Stephenson.
She was raised on Sandy Lake in Ravenna, Ohio along with her 5 siblings and graduated from Rootstown High School. During World War II, she worked at Goodyear in Akron making tires for the armed forces. Dorothy was a devout Catholic and had an incredible work ethic that she passed to her family.
She was a proud member of St. Edward Church in Blawnox for over 70 years. She retired from Fox Chapel High School in 1986, where she was the school’s Baker for 25 years. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, bingo, polkas, ironing/sewing, and baking/cooking for her family and friends.
She was famous for her Pumpkin Rolls, and Apple and Coconut Crème Pies. She loved cheering on her Pittsburgh Pirates. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Evelyn (Tom) Gillner of Upper Darby, PA; Joanne Freidhof of Aspinwall, PA; and Arlene (Dean) Patterson of Butler, PA.
Beloved grandmother of Michele (Bob) DiGiacomo, Lisa (Dave) Martinez, Katie (Jack) Stefanik, Heather Yukob (Richard), Tara Patterson and Emma Patterson. Cherished “GG” of Grace and Olivia DiGiacomo, Maddisyn and Baby Martinez, Evan and Ella Stefanik, and Ava Burnette. Her brother, Paul (Joan) Stephenson of California and several nieces and nephews, also survive.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Robert, whom she married on January 4, 1947; infant son, Dennis; her twin sister, Doris; sisters, Ruth Velka and Mary Traska; brother, Robert Stephenson; and brother-in-law, Steve Velka. Visitation from 4-8pm on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Thomas M. Smith Funeral Home 930 Center Avenue, Blawnox, PA 15238 , where family and friends will gather at 10:30am on Saturday, Septemebr 29, 2018 followed by Funeral Mass at St. Edward’s Church 450 Walnut St., Blawnox, PA 15238 at 11:30 am. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery to follow.
