Dorothy’s Obituary Dorothy Sanders, age 102, of O’Neill, Nebraska passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at the O’Neill Care and Rehabilitation Center in O’Neill. Upon Dorothy’s request, there will be no memorial services. Inurnment will be in the Joy (Blackbird) Cemetery with a private family gathering at a later date.

Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill is in charge of arrangements. Dorothy was born in O’Neill, Nebraska on September 9, 1916 to Irvin and Lillian (McManus) Simonson. She grew up on a farm north east of O’Neill in the Agee area.

She graduated from O’Neill High School in 1933. Dorothy married C.B. (Ben) Sanders in 1936 in Bartlett, Nebraska. Ben and Dorothy were the parents of two children; Robert and Judith.

Ben worked for the railroad and construction early in their married life so they moved frequently following work. They moved to California at the beginning of WWII where Ben worked at the ship yards. In 1947, they moved back to Holt County to manage the farm upon which she grew up.

Dorothy taught in rural schools in Holt County for twenty-five years. Upon retirement, Ben and Dorothy spent winters in Havasu, Arizona. Dorothy enjoyed crafts, birding, exercise / swimming, and visiting with friends.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Judith (Norris) Leafdale of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Barbara Sanders of O’Neill; granddaughters, Tammy (Doug) Morrow, Lorna (Vince) Davis, Dana (Lance) Heimes, Bari (Alan) Feller, Brenda (Kevin) Keller; grandsons, Bryan Sanders and Bruce (Deniece) Sanders; and numerous great and great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben Sanders in 2006; and son, Robert Sanders in 2006. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Evergreen for the loving care given to Dorothy through the years she resided there.
