OBITUARY Dorothy Ellen Skubiak February 17, 1934 – January 21, 2019 Dorothy (Dottie) Ellen Skubiak 84 gently departed this life on January 21, 2019. She was born on February 17, 1934 in Columbus Ohio. She was in Hospice care at the Alzheimer’s center at Springhill’s Memory Care in Lake Mary for many years and received a call to return home to be with her creator, Jesus Christ, and have all her questions answered, and suffer nevermore.
She is the daughter of Albert E and Dorothy M Beck. She left behind her husband of 55 years, Michael T Skubiak, two sons, Douglas (Maria Helena) Cohrs and Robert (Diana) Skubiak, and two very energetic and bright grandchildren, Noah and Nikolai Skubiak. She also left behind her beloved brother and sister, David Beck and Barbara Buchholz and an extended family of five nephews and two nieces.
Her life on earth was extraordinary because she did make the world a brighter place, and brought her never ending enthusiasm and happiness to thousands. She was an inspiration to all and radiated the love of her Lord to everyone. Dottie had the unique ability to sprinkle Pixie Dust on every event.
No one left her presence without a smile on their face, and the newly acquired joy of an uplifting encounter. She was the valedictorian of her high school class and went to Ohio State to study Home Economics. Because her husband frequently moved around the country due to work transfers, Dottie attended the nearest university or college, taking many courses related to literature, writing or grammar/English.
She had many artistic skills and a passion for all of the arts. She enjoyed going to concerts, opera, movies and plays. Dottie was renowned for singing solo at the Columbus (Ohio) Symphony and numerous church choirs.
In later life, she took up watercolor painting and won many awards. Because of her outstanding culinary talents and charm, she was noted to be the best hostess in every community she resided. She rarely missed a church service, and took joy in spreading the Gospel by example and word.
She traveled extensively, and loved it, going to such faraway places as Japan, Russia, Italy, Estonia, England and France. She also traveled to the special places in North America, such as the Grand Canyon, numerous national parks, Canada and Nova Scotia. Now she is in heaven, her final trip.
She’s the sunshine of life, with laughter in the air, she’s the essence of a selfless life, and she lived this life bringing joy and happiness to others and smiling to the end.
